The next 50 years is about engineering, not science

AJ Blog has a post (here) about The Next 50 Years, a book written by a panel of notables about science in the first half of the 21st century.  My own view is that science is less important to the next 50 years than engineering and technology.  Despite efforts to confuse and conflate the two, engineering and technology are not the same thing as science; nor is engineering merely applied science (The historically more accurate argument is to suggest that science is merely engineering method applied to the creation of concepts.  See "The Joy of Engineering" in The Entrepreneurial Engineer.). My advice is to be nice to your engineering friends–take an engineer to lunch–because they will be designing the world of your future.
