Rules for Important Science

18 November 2008

A Special Centenary Lecture 2007, 18 June 2007

James Dewey Watson gave a talk about the rules for Important Science.

Below are some important facts that I can capture from his talk!

Always sit on the front row! You dont understand, say you dont understand.

Ph.D. thesis is not important.

Be broader than your Ph.D. thesis!

Work on Sundays! What else you can you do on sundays :)

You should not work in August, but not in june or July :)

Student has to exercise, physically get tired!

Alcohol is not good :)

Get into something that 2-3 labs are working on it!

No one is going to give you 10 years not to succeed!

Work with a teammate, with equal intelligence!!!

Never be the brightest person in the room!

Talk to your competitives :)
