Zattoo - TV to Go

5 August 2007

I was browsing around today and I ran into Zattoo - TV to Go. It is a P2P IPTV service provided by an University of Michigan at Ann Arbor startup. See below their claim to fame.

Zattoo acquires, transports and presents quick-start, long-play streaming video in one browser for all channels for broadband users anywhere. Zattoo is the only provider of P2P IPTV to provide users with diverse and desired content of the highest possible video quality in one browser, while dramatically reducing cost and increasing reach for broadcasters and enabling advertisers to leverage the best aspects of both web-based and traditional television advertising methods. Zattoo partners with broadcasters and advertisers to serve consumers with a wide selection of content from various sources in one easy-to-use web interface.

Needless to say I asked for an invitation to test it. I am still waiting for it…

Crawlers on the loose

19 July 2007

Recently, our lab web server has been experiencing a great increase of bot visits. Besides the usual Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc. bots a new one caught my attention. It is visiting pretty frequently: Cuill. From the few information they have on their site, one of the co-founders is a former UIUC CS alumni Anna Patterson.

Cuill Inc. (pronounced [kool]) is a startup company that is pioneering a new approach to Search. The company was founded by Anna, Russell, and Tom. Our offices are located on a quiet street in Menlo Park, CA. If you’d like to learn more about Cuill or the people behind it, please get in touch.

GECCO 2007 Hat Trick

12 July 2007

Yup, never happened to me before. In John Koza’s words: Hat Trick, best paper in EDA track and two Bronze medals in the HUMIES competition. I just think that I was lucky and blessed to have the pleasure to work with such great people. It would not have happened if it wasn’t for them. Below you can find some of the presentations for the above Hat Trick, as well as some other work I presented on genetics-based machine learning.
